A former leading fashion model, almost 5'10'' in height, Carey was popular with the top American fashion designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was a prominent scientist and was named Scientist from 1979 by Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey's father was a scientist who travelled across the globe as part of his career. While she attended the University of Colorado, Carey began modeling on the side. The Ford Model Agency located in New York noticed her and offered to help. The year was 1980 when she emigrated to France where she briefly resided in Paris and Bordeaux, before returning to New York in order to explore an acting career. She appeared on Vogue as well as Glamour cover. She attended full-time classes at New York University, obtaining her degree in literature in between assignments as a model. Then she became interested in acting and started training with the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. Her debut as an actor was a role with Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Paradise. Her leisure time is spent in wind surfing, skiing and rock climbing. She also enjoys white water river rafting.
